Avi Codec Adobe Premiere

Can’t import your AVI file to Adobe Premiere Pro CS4/CS5/CS3/CS6/CC? It is officially stated that AVI is supported by Adobe Premiere. However, when importing an AVI file, Adobe Premiere including the recent Premiere Pro CC sometimes returns the error “Unable to open that file. File uses an unsupported compression format.” Sometimes it doesn’t show video, only the audio with. So what’s the matter? Read on to find the reason and the easy way to fix the AVI and Premiere Pro incompatible issues.

In this Adobe Premiere tutorial, I show you how to fix common render and export errors! Comment below with which fix worked for you - Additional links below. Some HEVC footages were recorded in variable frame rate (VFR), which will fail to import to Premiere Pro or cause video and audio out of sync issue. Although Premiere Pro CC 2018 (12.0.1) and later versions offer the Preserve Audio Sync feature to relieve this situation, it inevitably cannot give consideration to all kinds of program versions, systems, hardware configuration, etc., and H.265.

According to Adobe official website, Adobe Premiere Pro does import AVI files. However it only imports DV-AVI. If you try to add other AVI files like DivX-AVI, MJPEG-AVI, Xvid-AVI, 3ivX-AVI and more to Premiere, it either ends in fail or encounters some audio or video problem. Searched widely and I got some tech support for loading AVI files into Adobe Premiere Pro correctly.

  1. Select your imported AVI file from the project view in Premiere and then
  2. Go to File > Interpret Footage.
  3. Inside the Interpret Footage dialog box, check the Ignore Alpha Channel option.

This makes your AVI file completely visible. If the video still appears blank, try re selecting the clip in order to refresh the video viewer.

Another possible cause of reduced image quality when importing video into Premiere is Frame Blending. Right click on the video and uncheck the Frame Blending option.

I tried the solution, but the video playback is still jerky. I’d struggle to find another good one. Find out which file formats can be exported from Adobe Media Encoder, including formats for video, animation, and audio.

To export a file using Adobe Media Encoder, select a format in the Export Settings dialog box for the output. The selected format determines the preset options that are available. Select the format best suited for your desired output.

Adobe Media Encoder is used both as a stand-alone application and as a component of Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Prelude, Audition, and Animate. The formats that Adobe Media Encoder can export depend on which of these applications are installed.

Some filename extensions—such as MOV, AVI, and MXF —denote container file formats rather than denoting a specific audio, video, or image data format. Container files can contain data encoded using various compression and encoding schemes. Adobe Media Encoder can encode video and audio data for these container files, depending on which codecs (specifically, encoders) are installed. Many codecs must be installed into the operating system and work as a component inside the QuickTime or Video for Windows formats.

Depending on other software applications that you have installed, the following options are available.

Note:

As of September 15 2017, Adobe Creative Cloud apps now rely on your operating system (OS) to decode/encode Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus audio formats. Adobe no longer bundles the native libraries from Dolby with Creative Cloud products.

For information about how this change affects Dolby audio playback in your product, see Adobe Creative Cloud apps use native OS support for Dolby.
